Frequently Asked Questions
A few things you may want to know before getting started.
Knowing what to expect can make getting started feel a little easier. Here you’ll find answers to common questions about sessions, fees, insurance, scheduling, and working together.
-
Sessions are $200 for a 50-minute session.
The rate is the same for individual therapy, couples therapy, family therapy, and coaching services.
Payment is due at the time of service. Any additional policies regarding payment, cancellations, and scheduling will be reviewed before your first session so you know what to expect.
-
New Range Counseling is a private-pay practice and does not bill insurance directly. Payment is due at the time of service.
For psychotherapy clients, I can provide a superbill that you may submit to your insurance company if your plan includes out-of-network mental health benefits. A superbill is an itemized document that includes the information your insurance company may require when considering reimbursement for services you paid for yourself.
Reimbursement is not guaranteed and varies by insurance plan. I recommend contacting your insurance company before beginning therapy to ask about your out-of-network benefits, deductible, reimbursement rates, and any requirements for submitting claims.
Please keep in mind that insurance companies generally require a mental health diagnosis when processing claims for psychotherapy. If you choose to use a superbill, certain clinical information may therefore be shared with your insurance company as part of your reimbursement request.
Coaching is a separate, non-clinical service and is not psychotherapy or mental health treatment. Superbills are not provided for coaching services, and coaching should not be submitted to insurance for reimbursement.
Questions to ask your insurance company
Before beginning therapy, you may want to ask:
Does my plan include out-of-network outpatient mental health benefits?
Do I have an out-of-network deductible, and how much of it have I met?
What percentage or amount does my plan reimburse for out-of-network psychotherapy?
Is there a limit on the number of sessions covered?
Do I need prior authorization?
How do I submit a superbill for reimbursement?
Are telehealth and in-person psychotherapy reimbursed differently?

You might feel at home here if...
You're looking for a therapist who is engaged in the conversation rather than simply listening.
You're curious about the patterns underneath what's happening, but you also want practical ways to create change.
You want room for both serious work and being a human being.
You're willing to get curious about yourself, your relationships, and the possibility of doing something differently.
You don't need to have everything figured out. You just need somewhere to start.
-
It depends on the service.
For psychotherapy, where you are physically located matters because therapy is a regulated healthcare service. I provide psychotherapy to clients where I am legally authorized to practice.
Coaching is a separate, non-clinical service and may be available to individuals outside Colorado and California, subject to your location and applicable laws and regulations.
If you live elsewhere and aren't sure whether coaching would be appropriate, reach out and we can determine whether your goals fall within the scope of coaching.
-
My approach is collaborative, trauma-informed, and tailored to the person or relationship in front of me.
I am trained in EMDR and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and also draw from relational, cognitive-behavioral, narrative, and family-systems approaches.
You don't need to know which modality you need. That's part of my job. We'll determine what makes sense based on what you're experiencing and what you want to change.
-
Getting started is simple. Complete the brief inquiry form to tell me a little about yourself, what type of support you're looking for, and your general availability.
At this stage, a brief overview of what brings you to New Range Counseling is all that's needed. We'll have plenty of time to discuss your experiences, concerns, and goals more fully once we begin working together.
I'll follow up to answer any initial questions, discuss availability, and determine whether New Range Counseling is the right fit for what you're looking for.
You don't need to have everything figured out before reaching out.
-
You don't need to arrive with a perfectly organized version of your story.
The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and begin understanding what brought you to therapy, what's happening in your life now, what you'd like to be different, and what you hope to get from our work together.
I'll ask questions, you'll have an opportunity to ask me questions, and we'll begin figuring out what approach makes the most sense.
You don't have to tell me everything in the first session. We can go at a pace that makes sense for you.
-
There isn't one answer that applies to everyone.
Some people come to therapy with a specific concern they want to address. Others are working through experiences or relationship patterns that benefit from longer-term work.
We'll talk about your goals and check in periodically about what's changing, what's still difficult, and whether therapy continues to feel useful.
I don't believe therapy should continue indefinitely simply because you've started it.
-
Yes. I offer in-person therapy in the Denver area, as well as telehealth where appropriate and legally permitted.
You can indicate whether you prefer in-person sessions, telehealth, or either when you submit your initial inquiry.
-
Your appointment time is reserved specifically for you. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please provide at least 24 hours' notice.
Appointments canceled or rescheduled with less than 24 hours' notice, as well as missed appointments, will be charged the full session fee.
Cancellation fees are not eligible for insurance reimbursement and will not be included on superbills.

That’s completely okay. I have a public presence outside of my work as a therapist, including podcasts, social media, television, and other media. This work is separate from my clinical practice and is intended for general educational and/or entertainment purposes. It is not therapy or individualized clinical advice.
To protect your privacy and maintain clear professional boundaries, I do not follow, friend, or interact with clients on social media, and I do not discuss clinical matters through public platforms or direct messages. You’re welcome to engage with or follow my public content if you choose, but I will not engage in a way that could identify you as a client.
If something you see or hear in my public work comes up for you, you’re always welcome to bring it into our sessions.
