More Than Insight

We all develop ways of coping, connecting, and protecting ourselves based on what we have experienced. Some continue to serve us well. Others can start to feel limiting or keep us stuck in places we no longer want to be.

At New Range Counseling, therapy is about understanding those patterns while discovering what else might be possible. Together, we can explore different ways of responding to emotions, approaching relationships, navigating challenges, and making choices with greater intention.

It’s a space to make sense of what you’ve been carrying, understand what keeps getting in the way, and practice doing things differently.

I don’t believe therapy is about becoming a different person.

It’s about knowing yourself more fully, having more choice in how you respond, and creating more possibilities for what comes next.

Real Conversations. Meaningful Change.

I’m Sarah Rice, M.A., LMFT, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and the founder of New Range Counseling.

I work with children, teens, adults, couples, and families navigating the parts of life that can change how we see ourselves and the people around us. That might mean trauma, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, anxiety, questions of identity or self-worth, family conflict, or a major life transition you weren’t quite prepared for.

Sometimes people come to therapy because something happened. Other times, they’ve started noticing the same patterns showing up again and again. And sometimes there isn’t a clear explanation at all. You just know something needs to feel different.

You don’t have to know exactly what you need before you walk through the door. We can figure that out together.

Experience & Focus

My work is trauma-informed and includes specialized training in EMDR and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). I also draw from relational, cognitive-behavioral, narrative, and family-systems approaches, tailoring therapy to the person, couple, or family in front of me.

I have particular experience working with trauma and difficult life experiences, grief and loss, ADHD and neurodivergence, anxiety, self-worth, stress and burnout, emotional regulation, identity, relationship patterns, life transitions, communication, and rebuilding connection after relationships have been hurt.

My practice is LGBTQ+ affirming and inclusive. I welcome clients across sexual orientations, gender identities, relationship structures, backgrounds, and family configurations. Therapy should be a place where you can talk openly about who you are and the relationships that matter to you without having to explain, defend, or minimize your identity.

With children and teens, I consider not only what a young person is experiencing individually, but also their developmental stage, relationships, family system, school environment, and the larger world around them.

With couples and families, the goal isn’t to decide who is right or identify one person as the problem. We look at the patterns happening between people and work toward healthier ways of communicating, responding, understanding one another, and connecting.
